You can open DigUp’s search panel from any app using its global keyboard shortcut. If the shortcut does not respond or conflicts with another key binding, check the default keys and system-specific settings below. See how to use DigUp for the full list of search panel shortcuts.
Default shortcuts and changing them
On a Mac, the default shortcut is ⇧⌘Space (Shift-Command-Space). On Windows and Linux, the default shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+Space.
The documentation states that you can change the shortcut, and that you can open Settings from the menu bar on a Mac or the system tray on Windows and Linux. However, the documentation does not specify the exact control or field name inside Settings on Mac and Windows.
If you have a shortcut conflict, changing the shortcut is supported, though the documentation does not provide a specific conflict-resolution procedure.
Wayland shortcuts on Linux
Under Wayland, GNOME and KDE do not let apps set their own global shortcuts. On these desktops, DigUp adds Ctrl+Shift+Space to the desktop’s own keyboard settings during setup, and you change the shortcut there.
On other Wayland desktops, DigUp’s Settings shows the command for you to bind to a shortcut of your own in your desktop’s settings. For package details, see the Linux download guide.
Opening DigUp without the shortcut or tray icon
If the shortcut is unavailable, opening DigUp from the Start menu or your app list shows the search window.
On GNOME, the tray icon requires the AppIndicator extension, which Ubuntu includes. Without that extension, the search window’s ⋯ menu has the same items as the tray menu.
Mac fullscreen Space switching report
In a user report on macOS (issue #73), a user observed that when an app is fullscreen and they press the search hotkey (⇧⌘Space), macOS switches that display off the fullscreen app to a regular desktop Space. This is a user observation only, and there is no maintainer-confirmed fix in the sources checked on 2026-10-16.
