DigUp runs on Windows as a desktop search tool powered by EmbeddingGemma 2. The Windows release is currently a beta (version 0.7.0-beta.1).
System Requirements and Installation
DigUp requires 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. Download DigUp_0.7.0-beta.1_x64-setup.exe (40.5 MB) from DigUp’s GitHub Releases page. The installer sets up the app for your user account only, without requiring administrator privileges. To verify your download against the checksum, run certutil -hashfile DigUp_0.7.0-beta.1_x64-setup.exe SHA256 in Command Prompt.
Because the installer is not signed yet, Windows may display a message that it does not recognize the app. Click More info, then select Run anyway. For step-by-step guidance on this dialog, visit DigUp Windows Installer Warning During Setup.
First Launch and Hardware Acceleration
On your first launch, DigUp downloads the 865 MB model file while you select which folders to search. DigUp measures speeds on your computer and shows how long the first indexing pass will take.
During setup, DigUp runs a quick test to see if running the model on your graphics card via Vulkan is faster than your processor while providing identical results. If so, it uses the GPU; otherwise, it processes files on the CPU. You can check the selected hardware by looking at the last line of speed.log located in %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.abdurrahim.DigUp\logs.
After setup, DigUp resides in your system tray and updates itself. Press Ctrl+Shift+Space in any program to search.
Current Beta Limits
On Windows, text inside screenshots is not read yet, and legacy Word .doc files, RAW photos, and SVG pictures are skipped. When opening results, PDFs jump to the exact page in Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Acrobat, or SumatraPDF, and videos jump to the specific moment in VLC, mpv, or MPC-HC.
Because version 0.7.0-beta.1 has had far less use than the Mac release, you can report any bugs on GitHub Issues.
