According to the Everything support documentation, Everything is a Windows file search engine that provides filename searching. DigUp is an open-source search tool that indexes the contents of items in folders you designate.

How DigUp Indexes and Searches

DigUp reads images, PDFs, text documents, audio, and video using Google DeepMind’s EmbeddingGemma 2 model combined with exact-word matching. Rather than focusing on file names alone, DigUp points to specific pages in PDFs and particular moments in audio or video recordings. DigUp indexes only the folders you choose during setup or in Settings. It runs an initial indexing pass on your machine, displaying estimated completion times based on your hardware.

System Requirements and Platform Support

Everything operates on Windows. DigUp is available as a stable app on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later, and as a beta release (version 0.7.0-beta.1) on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 as well as supported 64-bit Linux distributions. On Windows and Linux, DigUp does not yet read text inside screenshots, and older Word .doc files, RAW photos, and SVG images are read only on a Mac.
